Lazy Mom??? I think NOT!

You are so lucky you can do this at work. I see alot of that these days.
Lazy Moms playing on the computer at work and then wondering
why they can't make enough money to support themselves.

This comment was left on one of my posts a few days ago. It wasnt until today that I even noticed it. I read all my comments but hadnt realized that there was a new one since the post was written last week. Anyways, that is irrelevant. I am sharing this comment and my reaction to it with all because, well, I dont know but I definitely have some things to say about it!

First of all, I have NEVER complained about or said that I cant support myself or my family. I dont reveal that sort of information here. SO where that came from, I dont know. My hubby and I make plenty of money and are both very successful in our careers. Maybe you are not as successful, Mr/Mrs Commenter and that is why you felt the need to comment like that. Yes, I have to be a working mom because we happen to live in an expensive area. Moving is not an option so dont offer that up as a solution or a comment. I (normally) like working; it just has its own set of unique challenges when you become a wife and a mom. Thats all I am saying on that part of the comment.

However, I have MUCH more to say about the "lazy mom" reference. There is not a mother in the world that should be called lazy. I wonder if the person who wrote the comment is a mother/parent/friend of a parent/has a parent/etc. Yes, I post most often to the blog when I am at my office; for two reasons----1) there is no work at the moment here (one of the reasons I have accepted a new job) and 2) because when I am at home, I am too damn busy with my family to post. Just for the commenter, I want to share with everyone my "Lazy Life" resume:
  • Full time Mother, 2 years (not including pregnancy which I count but not sure if anyone else does)
  • Full time Wife, 2 1/2 years
  • Full time Event Planner (out of the house job), 5 years
  • Charter Consultant for Taste of Home Entertaining (work at home job), 3 months
  • Private Event Planner (am hired occasionally for weddings, etc), 5 years on and off
  • Homeowner, in progress
  • Friend
  • Daughter
  • Sibling

Ask anyone who knows me in "real life"----lazy is not a word used to describe me or my family. If I am so lazy, then how do I manage all these things? If the commenter "sees this all the time", then stop reading my blog. Its okay. I dont need you as a visitor if you dont want to be here. Harsh I guess but why be somewhere that you dont want to be?!

In conclusion to this, I think that "Lazy Mom" is an oxymoron. Those two words do not make any sense when put together. How can you be lazy when another human is depending on you? And just because I spend a little time at the office blogging, does not make me lazy, unsuccessful, or in financial ruins! So commenter, go read someone else's blog because obviously you dont have a clue about what I am all about!

Have a good day!

Very well said. Whoever commented obviously doesn't know you at all and is just probably jealous. "Lazy mom"??? Please!

Holy shnikes - where to even begin? ...

1 - If the "commentor" was throwing these stones from their high horse - how is it that they had time to read your blog (and presumably others from the way the comment is written) and post disparaging comments if they are so unbelievably busy?

2 - I reread your posts - Not once have you ever mentioned that you couldn't afford to support yourself or your family - so that in and off itself is as WTF

3 - This is obviously a man who probably lost his job to a woman, can't get a woman and lives in his parents basement. [Sorry to the men (the ones I know and am friends with would never have a thought like this)]

4 - I know what it is to work full-time, be a full-time mother, a full-time wife, daughter, sister, friend and there are days I fall into bed without having eaten dinner because everyone and everything else comes first...and I know for a fact that SuperMom is the same way...

So Lazy Mom Commentor - How bout you walk a day in Super Mom's shoes or any Mom's shoes and we'll see what you have to say...I know I'd be thrilled to help write your To Do List...

Regardless of whether or not we are getting along at the moment. I have to say, you are definitely not a lazy woman period. You run around non stop. I've seen you go to work, pick up Gracie, feed her and yourself, and then bring her to see Bill at work, only to return home and get her ready for bed. To me you are a one woman band. So, no matter where we are in life at the moment. I respect the amount of work you do, and the commenter needs to get a life.

KB--Make your own damn pie! I amnot lazy but I am not a chef either! :)

The poster that stated that you are lazy, obviously doesn't know the trials and tribulations that you and Bill go through on a daily basis just to see each other for five minutes during the day. Having experienced the mom tornado that you are, first hand, Definately slams home the point that there aren't enough hours in the day for you to accomplish what you have to accomplish. Just living up there requires you to have 4 hands, and a jet pack. No matter what you think of me, I think you do an absolutely wonderful job as a mother, and having to do all that you do in a day makes you probably the strongest version of mom that you can be. Grace is lucky to have such a dedicated, loving mom, that is willing to do the extras to make sure that she is priority #1 in life, and she can grow up knowing that you will always be there for her. All too often, children become things that are often ignored, and often misunderstood. Espescially in our generation of running full tilt, head down. You make it work in any way possible, and your never ending energy and commitment to Grace will ensure that she grows up happy, intelligent, and loved.
I will always respect that, and I will always admire you for that.

OK, I seriously only came here to check you out and to say "hello!" So, Hello!

Then I saw this lazy mom thing and I really had to comment.

I read an article in Redbook this month that was really good about the so-called Mommy Wars. In so many words or less it said that the reason some moms are so critical of others is because we are so critical of ourselves. I'm losing the impact of the article here, I know. My point to all of this is that this commenter must have his or her own lazy baggage and has chosen to project it outward, perhaps?

There are certainly days when I feel lazy , just as there are days when I feel like a super mom. Cape and all.

Oh, and BTW you'd die if we compared housing markets. I live in Cecil County, MD.

Idiot! Whoever it was, was just a big, verbal diarrhea idiot!

I've been a work-outside-my-home mom. I'm now a SAHM. Both are terribly difficult in their own ways.

Unfortunately, I think someone with a my-way-or-the-highway mentality surfed your way. I am a big breastfeeding advocate, but I only nursed my first child for three months. So, I know what it's like to be in the middle of hell and someone to make me feel bad about it.

Interesting ... I wonder what this person was doing ... being so busy that they had a few moments to read and comment on blogs.

Idiot! (did I say that already?)

Thanks to all for the nice comments and support! The Mommy Wars really do seem to be alive and well. Unfortunately, I think its a little ridiculous myself. But regardless, thanks for the nice comments! It made my day!

Wow, what an idiot! Whoever wrote obviously doesn't know what it means to be a mother! Anyone who is a mother whether they stay at home or work, can NEVER be considered lazy! My, my, my!
