Diagnosis Unknown

Doctors spend a million years in school and then a few hundred more as residents. And finally, they actually get to be practicing docs.

Why then, after all those years of practice and schooling, can they not figure out what is happening with Hubby? Seriously, where is House when you need him!?

Hubby has been at the hospital since Monday morning with high temperatures. The highest is 104.7 but every 10-12 hours, he gets a temp of 102 or 103. And you can see it coming each time. The color drains from his face, he starts to sweat but he is shivering. And 45 minutes later, he is at 102. At least he is efficient...isnt climbing slowly....if he is going to get a temperature that high, he is going to get it fast. And then spend the next 3 hours trying to break it. It makes no sense to us or the docs.

And so, another day sitting in the horribly uncomfortable "guest chair" in his room. Watching his temp go up and down and up and down. But at least they have wireless internet here.

Just to show you that he is, in fact, okay, just feeling crummy....here is a pic of our family dinner time this week. Exciting huh?

Tired

I am tired.

I am tired of doctors.

I am tired of co-pays that suck my wallet dry.

I am tired of googling medical terms.

I am tired of words I cannot pronounce (docs must take a whole class on pronouncing LONG crazy words!).

I am just tired.

More later cause I am tired and need to sleep the day away.

Maybe tomorrow will be better. I bet I will still be tired.

Letter F

Grace is learning so much at preschool. Every day she comes home and is so excited to tell me something she did at school. Yesterday it was the "magic cookies" they made. It is so amazing to watch her learn.

Possibly the most important knowledge is her alphabet. She can sing them fine and there are a few letters she can recognize. She can spell the word "stop" and her own name. I thought that was it, until Friday. You see, on Friday, the letter F was the focus. Everything revolved around letter F. They had french fries for lunch, read a book about a frog, and did a craft.

What I learned on Friday was that my 4 year old daughter knew how to spell another word.

I am so proud that this craft is hanging on the fridge until I find a place to preserve it in her baby book.

Never A Dull Moment NOW WITH AN UPDATE!

I am still here. My automatic pilot is on full steam ahead.

Tonight, after I picked up Grace from preschool, we headed home and cuddled. For an hour. That is totally unlike her. She gives hugs and kisses but the minute you ask her to cuddle with you for more than 32.8 seconds, she runs the other direction.

The cuddling=she is sick.

Fever was 102 degrees last night but the Mo.trin seemed to help so we sent her to preschool. Yep, you guessed it. Back to 102.8 degrees tonight.

Tomorrow, I will be staying home from work yet again this month to sit with the sick kiddo. I even get to spend ANOTHER $20 for a copay. I think the co-pay grand total for the month is now $120. YIPEE!!!!!

Update: The roller coaster of parenthood continues. She woke up this morning with NO temperature and was back to her diva-self. Strange. But hey, it saved me $20 and I got to go to work today.

But not all is negative tonight.....check out this picture. My daughter is gorgeous, if I say so myself.

Love

I loved them as a kid. And even though the start of the performance is a little rough, I am still in love.

Exhaustion

One of the things I have learned as a mom is that the world moves faster than I do. Being sick is not an option for me because laundry still needs to be done, the kitchen needs to be cleaned, Grace needs a bath, and preschool sends home letters that must be read.

This week has been one of those highly emotional weeks in life. Bottom line, a week that will change us forever but one that I am determined will make our family stronger.

And it has all made me sick. Physically sick. I am at the office but really should go home. Maybe an early day today.

More later when I can actually talk about things. I just cant handle it right now.

Not Here

Today is Grace's first day of preschool. It was supposed to be yesterday but that is for another post on another day. Today is the day.

Hubby dropped her off this morning. When they called me at the office on the way into school, Grace sounded so excited....more excited than I have ever heard her. She is so proud to be a big kid now and that alone makes me so happy for her.

After drop off, I told Hubby that he had to call me to give me a second by second account of how it went. And like a good hubby, he did.

This is what he told me:

H: Grace ran right into the class and started talking to kids and reading books.
Me: Great! I am so glad that she is so social. She will make friends quickly.
H: Yea. Remember that kid Caleb? (Note: Grace met this little boy on her trial day at school 2 weeks ago).
Me: I do. He is really a cutie.
H: Well he was getting in trouble when I was dropping Grace off.
Me: Really? How do they discipline? You got to see it first hand.
H: Well, Marco (the teacher) was talking to him. Apparently, he was mad at her and told her that he was going to k..ill her.
Me: WHAT!? Are you kidding me? What did Marco say to him?
H: Well, Marco said "Caleb, we dont kil.l people here at Chi.ldtime.

Great! That was the first criteria on the "Choose the Right Preschool for your Kid" checklist.

Groovy Party

For the past 7 months, I have spent my spare time (laugh cause there isnt much of that around here!) planning a 30th Anniversary Party for my professional association. And last night was the night. Finally.

We were all dressed up in our 70s finest. And partied the night away.

After months and months of planning and stressing out over the event, it came off perfectly.

I am exhausted today so here are some pics to share the event with you!

An Adult Evening

hubby and i

Every once in awhile, we get to all dressed up and go out on the town. Last night was such a night.

We are lucky to live in the DC area where there is always something special happening. Whether its politics, art, or festivals, DC is a mecca for occasions.

The Kennedy Center Spring Gala was last night featuring music in films. Hosted by Ma.rtin Sco.resce and Steven Spei/lberg, it was amazing. Listening to Speil.berg narrate a scene from Indian.a Jones and then having John Williams (yep, the famous composer was there too!) play the music to the very same scene. Unbelievable to see it all happen with the National Sy.mphony Orchestra.

the girls all dressed up

The best part of course was getting all dressed up. Hubby in his wedding tux and me in a new dress (cause these occasions call for new dresses!).

Dogs and Kids

Polly joined our family at Christmas. She fit right in. Its hard to remember what it was like around her without her.

She and Grace have become the best of friends. Grace talks to her like she is a sister and Polly protects Grace. Whenever anyone is near Grace and Polly doesnt know them, she will get between the new person and Grace. If Grace is crying, Polly barks non-stop at whoever made her cry. Its so adorable to watch.

But this week, Polly showed us just how patient she is when it comes to Grace. I mean, seriously, how many dogs would allow their human sister to do this to them?
